What is Hedge Trimming?
A well-trimmed hedge is one of the cheapest ways to lift the appearance of any property. A poorly-trimmed one drags the whole place down. We trim to crisp, square lines, clear every clipping and leave the hedge looking like the day it was planted.
Whether it's a 5-metre run of privet around the front garden or 200 metres of perimeter conifer at a commercial site, we use the right machine, the right blade and the right finish for the species. Most domestic jobs take 1–3 hours including clearance.
Annual maintenance contracts available with priced visits scheduled at the right times of year for each species — usually two or three cuts annually for fast-growing hedges.
Who It's For
- Homeowners wanting a tidy, professional finish
- Landlords keeping rental properties presentable
- Commercial premises with perimeter hedging
- Holiday lets needing turnaround between bookings
When It's Needed
- Hedge looks shaggy, uneven or out of shape
- Growth is encroaching on path, drive or window
- Annual or seasonal maintenance
- Property sale prep or end-of-tenancy clean
What Happens If You Leave It
Leaving a hedge untrimmed for 2+ years lets it run wild — and once it's gone past its intended height, hard pruning back to size means bare brown patches that take years to recover. Annual maintenance is far cheaper, easier and prettier than rescue.
DIY trimming with a domestic battery trimmer is fine for short hedges. Anything over 1.8m or 10m long quickly becomes hard work, dangerous on ladders, and leaves a scalloped, uneven finish. Professional reach equipment makes a level finish effortless.

Hedge Trimming: The Full Detail
Hedge Species & Cutting Schedules
Privet, beech, hornbeam: 2–3 cuts per year (May, August, optional November). Leylandii and Lawson cypress: 2 cuts per year (June and August). Yew: 1–2 cuts (August and optional March). Box: 1–2 cuts (June and September). Native mixed (hawthorn, blackthorn): 1 cut per year (winter).
We follow the BTO/RSPB guidance and avoid cutting active nesting hedges between 1 March and 31 August unless thoroughly inspected first.
Equipment & Finish Quality
We use STIHL professional petrol trimmers with 30–60cm blades, plus reach poles for hedges up to 4m and tower access above that. Blades are sharpened weekly so cuts are clean — important for plant health on box, beech and hornbeam.
Every job is covered by £5m Public Liability Insurance and carried out under method statements and risk assessments tailored to your site.
