What is Free Charity Tree Work (OAPs)?

We run a charity programme providing free essential tree work and firewood supply to vulnerable elderly residents across Staffordshire. It's funded entirely from our regular tree work — when you book us, a small percentage of every job goes into the charity pot.

Eligible work covers safety-critical jobs only: removal of dangerous limbs, fallen trees blocking access, hazardous deadwood over a residence. Plus regular firewood deliveries through winter for residents using wood as primary heat.

Referrals come through Age UK Stafford, parish wardens, social services and partner charities. Self-referral isn't usually possible — but anyone can refer someone they know.

    Who It's For

    • Vulnerable OAP residents in Staffordshire
    • Charities working with elderly residents
    • Social services teams
    • Family members or neighbours referring an OAP in need

    When It's Needed

    • Hazardous tree on an OAP's property
    • Firewood needed for winter heating
    • Storm damage on a vulnerable resident's home
    • Garden becoming unsafe

What Happens If You Leave It

Many vulnerable elderly residents face impossible choices: pay £400 for emergency tree work or accept the risk. Heat the house or eat. The charity programme exists to remove these choices for the most vulnerable in our community.

Word doesn't always reach us. If you know an elderly Staffordshire resident with a tree problem, please pass our details on — even if they can't pay, we want to help.

Free Charity Tree Work (OAPs): The Full Detail

    How To Refer Someone

Anyone can refer a vulnerable OAP — family members, neighbours, social workers, parish councillors, GPs. Contact us with the resident's name, address, brief description of the issue and (if possible) a third-party confirmation of need.

We assess each referral on safety urgency and resident vulnerability. Genuinely critical hazards are usually attended within 1–2 weeks; firewood deliveries scheduled for autumn/winter.

    Why We Do It

Rhys Hutchinson, founder, served in the British Army and saw at first-hand how isolated vulnerable older people can become. Tree work is what we do — using it to help people who can't afford it is the obvious response.

The programme is funded directly from paying jobs. There's no Gift Aid, no fundraising appeal, no admin overhead. Book a paying job and you contribute automatically.

Every job is covered by £5m Public Liability Insurance and carried out under method statements and risk assessments tailored to your site.
