What is Bramble Clearance?
Bramble (Rubus fruticosus) is the UK's most aggressive garden invader. A single rooted cane can produce 20m of stem in a year, rooting at every tip and forming impenetrable thickets. By the time it's covered a fence-line or back garden, hand-clearing it is a nightmare.
We strip bramble mechanically — brushcutter for small areas, flail or forestry mulcher for larger — then either dig or treat the crowns to prevent regrowth. Most domestic bramble jobs are cleared in a single day.
Regrowth treatment is essential: bramble cut without root removal or chemical treatment will be back to original size within 2 years.
Who It's For
- Homeowners with overgrown back gardens or boundaries
- Paddock and field owners with bramble encroachment
- Commercial premises with neglected perimeters
- Anyone losing usable space to bramble takeover
When It's Needed
- Bramble has overrun a garden corner, fence-line or path
- Field margins are losing grazing area to bramble
- Pre-fence or pre-build clearance needed
- Annual maintenance to keep cleared land bramble-free
What Happens If You Leave It
Bramble doubles its footprint every 2 years if ignored. The cost of clearance scales with area — wait 5 years and you're paying 4× what it would have cost today.
Cutting bramble without crown removal or treatment is wasted money. The roots simply produce more vigorous shoots, often thicker than the original. Proper jobs include the regrowth strategy.

Bramble Clearance: The Full Detail
Mechanical Strip vs Chemical Treatment
First pass: bramble cut to ground using brushcutter (small areas) or flail/mulcher (larger). Cut material chipped on site if dense, or tipped away.
Second pass (timing depends on season): either physical removal of crowns by digging, or systemic herbicide application (glyphosate-based) to actively growing regrowth in late summer. Chemical treatment is more reliable for extensive infestations.
Third pass (3–6 months later): inspect for survivors and spot-treat. After this, annual maintenance is straightforward.
Bramble & Wildlife Habitat
Bramble thickets host significant wildlife — nesting birds, small mammals, invertebrates. Where biodiversity is a concern, we offer partial clearance: removing bramble from cultivated areas while retaining a defined habitat strip.
Every job is covered by £5m Public Liability Insurance and carried out under method statements and risk assessments tailored to your site.
