Local Knowledge
Tree work in Staffordshire isn't generic. The county has its own mix of soils, species, weather patterns and planning constraints — and a tree surgeon who knows the patch will save you time, money and, occasionally, a tree worth keeping.
Hymenoscyphus fraxineus has spread through hedgerows and woodland edges across the county. Affected ash become brittle quickly and fail without warning — particularly along roadsides and field boundaries north of Stafford and out towards Uttoxeter. We triage, monolith or fell depending on safety risk, and we'll always show you why before recommending removal.
Parts of the county sit on shrink-swell clay. Large trees within roughly 10 metres of a house can pull moisture out of the soil and contribute to cracking — especially in dry summers. The fix isn't always removal: a sympathetic crown reduction in line with BS3998 often resolves the issue while keeping a mature tree in place.
Stafford, Lichfield and parts of Tamworth and Newcastle-under-Lyme contain Conservation Areas and large numbers of TPO'd trees. Cutting a protected tree without consent is a criminal offence with fines up to £20,000 per tree. We check planning records with the relevant council and submit the six-week notification or TPO application on your behalf — at no extra cost.
Trees along the Sow, Penk, Trent and Dove are exposed to channelled wind and saturated root plates — they fail more often than people expect. Hilltop and field-edge trees across the Chase and the Moorlands fringe see similar loading. We run a emergency rota for windblown trees on cars, roofs and roads — typical on-site response across Staffordshire is under an hour.
